LinuxMint 14 deletes all software on close

Post by Jen Brannstrom »

I am running VirtualBox 4.2.16 on Windows 7 and have installed LinuxMint 14.
It works great, except that each time I close the box and re-start, all software I installed has disappeared.
By software I mean: google chrome, heroku git "toolbelt", github.

Initially I though that perhaps the distro type I had chosen when installing was wrong Linux/Linux2.6.
So I deleted that machine and re-installed using Linux/Ubuntu.

Still no change.

Most likely you are still running on the Live CD. Remove any ISO still mounted in the VM CD/DVD drive and start your VM again.

Forgive the stupidity, but here's what I did and the result:

Settings tab in Virtualbox: The only .iso I found was under "controller: IDE".
I deleted that and started the machine, which gave me:
FATAL: "No bootable medium found! System halted."

I then re-created a storage disc called MintStorageDisc.vdi.

Expected the machine to boot.
Unfortunately, It is not, so there musty be something I am doing wrong.

If there was no hard disk before (VDI file), and only the ISO, you still need to install Linux Mint then.
Once you've done that, you'll be able to run without the ISO.

Aaaaah, I didn't realise you had to actually run the file that was on the mint desktop.
This youtube video showed me what I had missed out : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIqR--Lj0_Y

Thanks for your help!
