Guest Driver Install Error - Windows 7

Hi guys,

I'm running 64bit Windows 7 loaded on my C drive, and the latest version of VirtualBox (from virtualbox org) loaded onto my D drive.

I've tried installing the guest addition for Windows from both installers that come with VirtualBox - "VBoxWindowsAdditons" and the specific 64bit one "VBoxWindowsAdditions-amd64".

I get the same error during installation of the "DriverPackageInstallW" for both installers:

"Guest driver returned:2
ERROR: Could not install files for Windows 2000 / XP / Vista! Installation aborted"

Seems a little odd given I'm running Windows 7? Doesn't anyone know what's going on here?

I think you are going to have to give a bit more information about what you have done here.

You say you have Windows 7-64 installed, but is this your host or your guest system? It sounds like your host system from the way you describe it, but it is the guest which will determine which version of the additions are needed. (In many cases, the right one will be chosen automatically.) What system is your guest?

How have you tried to install the guest additions? I am not sure why you would need to go anywhere near the "DriverPackageInstallW" file.

Guest Additions need to be installed in the guest, not the host.

Sorry for the vague outline of the problem - my computer operating system (host) is Windows 7 (64bit) and the guest is Mac OSX Snow_Leopard_10.6.1-10.6.2_SSE2_SSE3_Intel_AMD.

I've tried loading the guest additions through the guest "install guest additions" within the virtualbox menu, however I don't get an autorun box like most of the tutorials suggest. The guest additions CD mounts on the guest desk top and trying to open it just opens it in Finder. I've tried running each of the exe files in there, but they won't run in the Mac OSX system. So I then tried installing the guest additions from the program file (virtualbox) directory in Windows and this is where I get the aforementioned error.

From the last post it sounds like I have to run it in the guest (Mac) or it won't work?

For anyone coming to this thread in the future - there are no Guest Additions for Mac OS X guests.

However a bigger problem is that using OS X on a Windows host violates the Apple license, hence I must lock this thread as no support is possible. Read Important notice regarding Mac OS X as Guest.
