Windows 7 Enterprise SP1
Oracle VM Virtual Box v4.2.16 r86992

I've created an Ubuntu 12.04 LTS VB using Vagrant ( Vagrantfile "vagrant up" ).

I Oracle VM VirtualBox Manager , the VB is shown as running. However, right-click > Close > ACPI Shutdown has no effect.

Anyone know why ?

We don't support running VirtualBox with/in Vagrant and for us to be able to help you would need to actually run VirtualBox as it is intended (outside the vagrant sandbox). If you still have an issue then we would need to see the guests log file (as an attachment).

When you say "we" do you mean Oracle ?

So if Oracle does not support running VirtualBox within Vagrant , does this mean that Vagrant is misusing VirtualBox ? Or what exactly does this mean ?

Thanks.

It means we have no idea what vagrant is actually doing in regards to control. No one I've talked to (except end users) have it installed and know what it is doing to the actual process so it would be impossible to tell you what you need to do unless you run it outside vagrant so we can be sure that vagrant is not the actual problem.

To answer your question "does this mean that Vagrant is misusing VirtualBox ?" No they are not. There are several others here that have created specific and useful apps that are used on VirtualBox and we do not support them either (See the sticky topics in the Windows host section) but the publishers of the apps do support their products themselves.

Now if a Vagrant super user wants to start a topic for others to see and discuss, we would be more than happy to make it a sticky as well. We have been discussing Vagrant for a while now I can tell you the DEVs are not interested in supporting a specific external platform at this time.
