DHCP and Internal Networking

Hi,

I am using internal network for my virtual machines, and I would like to configure dhcp on internal networks. Especially, I want to configure the DHCP such that particular ip address are reserved for particular vms, while the rest of the vms get ips dynamically. "8.35 VBoxManage dhcpserver" in user manual is not detailed enough. Any pointers on this?

My Setup information:
Virtual box and API version: Version 4.2.12
Host OS: Windows 7 64
VM: Windows 7 64

Thanks,
Amruth Kumar Juturu.

"VBoxManage dhcpserver" seems straightforward, what further detail would you need? I would use this command to set the IP range used by guests configured by DHCP, while ensuring that the netmask also includes IPs you assign manually. If all guests are connected to the same internal network then they should be able to see each other.

If you don't like the way the built-in DHCP server works (for whatever reason), you can always run your own DHCP server in one of your vms and configure it in any way you choose. This is a good idea if you are running virtualization to test a configuration for a physical network.
