Windows guest won't recognise apple superdrive

Hi all,
I am running Window 7 on Macbook Air OS X 10.8.4 host. For some reason I can't access the USB Superdrive in the guest OS. I have installed the guest additions and searched the forum for answers, but cannot get it to work. I read that you must eject USB devices from the Host OS before you can use them on the Guest OS, but superdrive doesn't show up as connected. CDs appear on the desktop and in Finder, and can be ejected, but the drive itself is eluding me.
I get the following error message when I try to select the drive from the USB devices menu.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
