Has anyone got Dmidecode working on Windows 7 64 host?

Post by joao »

I can't get it to work.

DmiBIOSVendor
DmiBIOSVersion
DmiSystemVendor
DmiSystemProduct

I need to find these things to attach them to an xml file of an XP guest, but everytime I go to cmd.exe it tells me DmiDecode can't be found.

I downloaded dmidecode from here:

http://gnuwin32.sourceforge.net/packages/dmidecode.htm

The complete package except sources option.

But it didn't seem to install any exe at all, all I see are folders.

Is there an alternative to DmiDecode for Windows? What on earth am I doing wrong? I've also tried it inside the XP guest, but it tells me can't be found.

I'm following the rules illustrated in this thread here:

viewtopic.php?t=9697

but it seems its too old and might have closed any answers. The guy keeps going on about how he's using dmidecode t01 commands to find out the values but I can't get dmidecode to work so i'm desperate.

It works for me. If you don't install it or do not see it installing then it is not installed.
Install it again and pay attention to the messages.

If there's a bunch of folders then try looking in the folder "sbin". AFAIK it's a bunch of stand alone exe files, it doesn't really need installing. When using cmd line make sure you type the file path to the exe, or else make sure that folder is included in your default path.

Thanks, that was it apparently. There's a dmidecode exe file inside that folder.

HOWEVER, how can I find the above values, the BIOS and System values and vendors? Everytime I write dmidecode a very large amount of data is output and I don't know how to harness it. In fact too much information comes out and the top part of the screen is left out, and I don't know how to get all the information to show either.

Would you or Perryg or anyone else reading this thread know how to find this?

The user manual for each tool is in the "man" folder. Look - this really isn't the DMIDecode support forum, so I suggest you use Google to answer questions about it.
