Noob to VBox and would like some guidance on how to accomplish 3 interconnected networks. I am trying to setup a unit test bed with 3 security layers using 3 host-only adapters and 3 internal adapters; DMZ, usernet and servernet. Servernet will host the core AD and its policies. 2 read-only ADs with one way trust will be placed in usernet and DMZ.

Servernet (inner most tier) will house all servers representing the server farm. Usernet (mid-tier) will be all authenticated user workstations representing the front office. DMZ (outer-tier) will provide outside (internet) communication and house DMZ web reverse proxy servers like ARR etc

Guidance is much appreciated

Creating multiple internal networks is simplicity itself. Simply use a different name for the network.

How you configure the virtual machines and how you route between them is beyond the scope of this forum. Networking is networking, no matter whether you use virtual machines and networks or physical ones (or a mixture of the two). They all use the same protocols and behave in the same way.

I am interested to know why you would consider using host-only connections. I cannot see any use for them in the scenario you outlined. I prefer to regard the host as a "black box" which powers the virtual machines and networks but plays no part whatever in the network diagram.

Consider each host-only as a hardware switch onto which the VMs and the host are connected.
Since the host is the only entity having a NIC in each network, it must be configured as a router.
The rest is pure networking.
