Reboot crashes during OEL64 install

Post by Demps »

During install of OEL6.4 on Dell Intel laptop, the VM guest has been allocated 1xCPU, 2GB, 40GB HDD and progresses through all the default install, including additional packages, but when choosing the 'Finish' to finalise the install and reboot, the Virtual box program crashes, and unresponsive.

I have tried to restart the VM guest, but it goes back into a loop of trying to finalise, and 'reboot' then crash.

Any one had similar experiences?
Please find the VBox.log attached, if it helps

thanks

Looks like you are installing the 64 bit version of OEL but selected the 32 bit version from the VBox drop down. This does not enable the io apic needed for 64 bit support.
Enable it and try again, or delete this install and select the 64bit OEL and start the install over.

ok thanks, -- I'm actually posting on behalf of work colleague, so will validate his install tomorrow

cheers

PS. I have deployed OEL64 x64 on my VBox, although thought it may have been Intel related, as i have AMD.

It's easy to miss the right one. When you type the name if VBox can determine the build it will suggest the built selection. If you click on it again you will see the 64 bit version. Basically all they should need to do is enable io apic.

Hi I am using Dell M4700 Precision with Windows 7 64 bit. During the last stage of installation of OEL6U4 my VM crashed and in next reboot after clicking the finish button on enable kdump screen my VM crashed again. I thought I will not be able to use my Dell M4700. I am using VirtualBOX 4.3.4r91027.

Later I realized that I had issue with the folder name where I kept my VM Images. I used following folder naming when I had issue "D:\VM\12.1.1.1". Later I realized that my folder had dots "." in the folder name.

Later I removed the dots "." from my folder name "D:\VM\12111" and it worked perfectly. Check the folder name in yours.

hope this helps. cheers.
