Hello,
I have notebook Lenovo T520 (host Win7x64, Lubuntu 13.04 guest) with integrated Mobile Broadband Modem Ericsson F5521gw. I think, that modem is recognized by system right:
Code: Select all
john@lubuntu:~$ lsusb
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0bdb:1911 Ericsson Business Mobile Networks BV
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 80ee:0021 VirtualBox USB Tablet
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
In Network Connection I have configured provider. Also "Enable Mobile Broadband" box is checked.
When I choose form list my saved configuration, nothing happens. After that "Enables Mobile..." box is not checked.
Is it really possible to use this modem on virtualized Lubuntu?

in a guest all you should have to do is select either NAT or Bridged Network in the VirtualBox network settings and the guest should recognize the modem. there is no need to configure a provider in the guest settings as far as I know.

The device is USB connected so it should be possible to get into the guest.
Did you check with lsusb if it is still there after you tried to connect? Some of these devices switch between two USB ids, maybe you need to add another USB filter or modify the existing filter to just include the "0bdb" vendor id for Ericsson and leave the device id empty.

You are right. But also I use wired connection and don't want to use it on the guest. I want to have second connection (mobile) which I will use on the guest. In other words: on host (Win7) I want wired connection, on guest (Lubuntu) I want mobile connection - both at the same time.

Yes, it is

I've just modified existing filter: Vendor ID as "abcd", Product ID now is blank. But when I lsusb, still have
0bdb:1911 Ericsson Business Mobile Networks BV
I've also added another USB device and changed its Product ID. But I Can see in menu Devices -> USB Devices only one "Lenovo F5521gw".

If the device stays visible/available in the lsusb listing this looks more like a Lubuntu problem.
You may need to analyze the logfiles inside the Lubuntu guest to find out what's going wrong.

I don't know much about networking but wouldn't the guest need a driver for the Ericsson Mobile Card?
