VB CPU Requests

I'm wondering how Virtual Box handles its CPU Requests, does it act like VMware and Time Slice the CPU and que up requests in between other work the CPU is running or does it function like other software and process on next available based on process priority?
Reason: I have a AMD 8 core 3.5 MHz (4 core with hyper threading basically), 32GB machine with 4TB raid 5 set up. I want to run a Virtual Linux DC emulator and possibly a virtual firewall emulator like untangle on it and route traffic through it. I am not sure just how well the hostbox will be able to handle browsing, video's and games and such with it going through the VM for the firewall.
Example setup:
Modem to Eth0 on Hostbox
Eth0 - HostBox IPV4 Disabled - Untangle - External / WAN
Eth1 - HostBox IPV4 Disabled -Untangle - Internal / LAN - Hands out DHCP
8 port Switch to Eth1 on Hostbox
Eth3 - HostBox IPV4 Enabled to pickup DHCP from Eth1
Machine02 - pickup DHCP from Switch
Machine03 - pickup DHCP from Switch
Printer01 - pickup DHCP from Switch
