Creating a virtual network using Ubuntu

Hello all,
I am new to these forums and to VirtualBox so please forgive my ignorance. I have done quite a bit of searching on Google, but I am not really sure if what I have found really answers my questions, which is why I am here. Basically what I want to do is to create a small virtual network including just 2 users and a host server using Ubuntu for all machines. I am running VirtualBox on a Mac, but I don't really think that should make a difference. I also want to implement a virtual firewall between my users and the host server. This is all to do some virtual firewall testing eventually. I am writing a paper on virtual firewall performance and would like to include some tests in my analysis using VirtualBox. Are there any images of such a set up that are available and if not, does anyone know how I can go about implementing such a scenario? Nothing fancy, just something basic. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
