Hi, today when i opened my VB one of my machienes had a red mark. I tried to start it but the error message "can't open .vbox" popped up. This VM that wont work is a whonix-workstation and is Ubuntu based I think.
Code: Select all
Could not find an open hard disk with UUID {9493e6c6-c786-495a-9357-d1faafc24d1e}.
Fehlercode: VBOX_E_OBJECT_NOT_FOUND (0x80BB0001)
Komponente: VirtualBox
Interface: IVirtualBox {3b2f08eb-b810-4715-bee0-bb06b9880ad2}
I really have no clue what to do and the data on the VM is woth allot to me. Would be really nice if any one could help me with this.
Thanks in advance

Where does drive N come from? Network drive or external drive?

From an encrypted volume mounted in Truecrypt "N:"
Do you have any idea what the problem maybe?

Well it says it can't find it. Maybe truecrypt? you need to find out why it can't be found and I'm afraid no one can do that for you.

Okay this shocks me a little, sounds like there is no hope. Clear is that i won't be able to find the problem my self.
Can you maybe give me a little more advise?

If you know the name of the guest you can see if it exists. Use search to see, but the treucrypt thing may hinder that.
Look these things don't just happen. You need to ask yourself what happened between the last time it worked and now. Can be as simple as logging off and failing to log on properly, shutting down wrong, etc.

As you just said if any thing happened from the last time I used the VM, I remembered some thing. The last shut down took really long and the VM window was still open even tho the shut down was finished for 5 minutes. I did "End Task" du make it close and after a error from windows the window closed.
Maybe this is any help to find the problem.
I am pretty sure the Truecrypt volume is okay, because all the other VM's in that same Truecrypt volume are still working perfectly

That could do it.
1) locate the virtualbox.xml file and post here. ( compress it so it will get past the security filters )

Does N:/VMS/Whonix-Gateway/Whonix-Gateway.vbox exist and does N:/VMS/Whonix-Gateway/Whonix-Gateway.vdmk exist as well.
What about N:\VMS\Whonix-Workstation\Whonix-Workstation-disk1.vmdk, does it exist?

- Whonix-Workstation.vbox
- Whonix-Workstation.vbox-prev
- Whonix-Workstation-disk1.vmdk
This is what is in N:/VMS/Whonix-Workstation, the same for Gateway to.
But Gateway works and Workstation doesn't let me Add it to VB.

Well your in luck that workstation-disk1.vmdk still exists.
You can either create a new guest and instead of creating a new HDD tell VBox to use an existing one.
Alternately you can always attach workstation-disk1.vmdk to an existing guest as a second drive and copy the data off.
