Failed to access the USB subsystem.

Post by Mackan90096 »

Hi. I tried creating a virtual machine on Windows 7 64-bit with Linux Ubunto on it.

When the wizard for it is done, I click the settings button.

And I get this error message:

Failed to access the USB subsystem.

Could not load the Host USB Proxy Service
(VERR_FILE_NOT_FOUND). The service might not be installed on the host computer.

And in the Details:

Result Code:
E_FAIL (0x00004005)
Component:
Host
Interface:
IHost {30678943-32df-4830-b413-931b25ac86a0}
Callee:
IMachine {22781af3-1c96-4126-9edf-67a020e0e858}

Why do I get this error and how do I fix it ?

Thanks in advance for help // Mackan90096

In that case please post a VM log file as a zipped attachment, as described in Minimum information needed for assistance.

Hi Mackan90096,

I am having the exact same problem:
VirtualBox version 4.2.18 r88780 (running Extension Pack 4.2.18 r88780)

Host: Windows 7 64bit - 32Gb RAM, Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600 CPU @3.4Ghz
Guest: Windows 7 64bit - 4Gb RAM (Guest Additions 4.2.18 r88780 installed)

Most other post about this have been from people running Ubuntu hosts whereby permissions have been the issue, but I cannot seem to find anyone other than you reporting this from a Windows host.

mpack: This is a problem occurs in the manager, which log should I upload?

Ok please disregard my last post, I have now upgraded everything (VBox, Extensions and Guest additions) to version 4.3.2 r90405 and the error has disappeared and USB is now working correctly.
