UPGD to 4.2.16 Xorg no longer senses Display Capability

Hi,

Help 8-(

I am running a RedHat 6.4 x86_64 Guest on VirtualBox 4.2.16 MacOSX with extpack.

I recently upgraded VB to 4.2.16 :( and now my Xorg no longer seems to be able to detect the capabilities of the screen, which is just listed in the display settings applet as Unknown. The Guest additions and xorg openGL install's all seemed to complete OK.

The Max resolution I can get is 1024x768

VB is set to Graphics Card with 128MB Graphics Mem and 3D on. (though I have tried with 3D off as well.)
I will attach the log file as I don't really understand what is going on.
The /etc/X11/xorg.conf file has a date of May 14, even though I ran the guest additions install today. (8 july)?

this is what it has in it.

[keith@oc7876187887 X11]$ cat xorg.conf
Section "ServerLayout"
Identifier "Default Layout"
Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0
InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard"
EndSection

Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Keyboard0"
Driver "kbd"
Option "XkbModel" "pc105"
Option "XkbLayout" "us"
EndSection

Section "Device"
Identifier "Videocard0"
Driver "vesa"
EndSection

Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Monitor0"
HorizSync 31.5-62.5
VertRefresh 50-70
EndSection

Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen0"
Device "Videocard0"
Monitor "Monitor0"
DefaultDepth 24
SubSection "Display"
Viewport 0 0
Depth 24
Modes "1280x800" "1024x768"
EndSubSection
EndSection

Thanks for any help you can provide 8-)

I find it unusual that you would even have an /etc/X11/xorg.conf file at all.

My OEL 6.4 which is based off RH 6.4 does not have one. All that should be required is the guest additions be install (in the guest) that matches your version of VirtualBox.
Once they are installed and working you should be able to drag the window to what ever size you want and use the full screen toggle ( host+F) to go in and out of full screen.

Hi Perry,

Thx for the reply.
Prehaps I should delte the xorg.conf file then?
The Files are too large for the forum so I'll clear them and redo the install, then bzip tar them up.
I have attached vboxadd-install.log and vboxadd-install-x11.log

Thanks agin for your help 8-)

Hi Perry,

YEP, I removed the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and bang, after a reboot it now works fine.

I didn't even suspect there should not have been one there.
Weird though that it worked ok before the upgrade?

Anyhow.

Thanks heaps.
