I would like to save a lot of money (I think) by purchasing Windows 8 Professional System Builder OEM DVD 64-Bit for $130 on Amazon. I cannot even see a price for this on the Micro$oft site. But I am not sure if it will work on my 8GB Ram MacBook Pro. I currently have W7Pro, XP Pro working well, both seem happy with 3584MB RAM, and 2 CPUs. (And a beta developer edition of W8 not working well, nor is Chrome, but that is another subject)
Is this possible?
There is a note at http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/wind ... #section_5 that says "System Builder versions of Windows 8 require hardware that has the Designed for Windows 8 logo and are touch-capable." I have a nice touchpad, and was kinda able to use it in the latest VBox for W8 Developer Edition, but I failed miserably at most things.
Any assistance, a link to how to do it if I can would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Will Windows 8 Pro Sys Bldr OEM DVD 64-Bit Work on MBP?
The way you ask this, implies two questions for me :
1. Am I allowed to run this version of Windows 8 on Virtualbox?
2. Is it technically possible to run it?
My answers :
1. Ask Microsoft. Or get legal advice.
2. If you can give 2 GB of RAM, Windows 8 should run. But this also depends on other requirements (like VT-x & PAE/NX). But there is no way to give you an answer on this since you don't mention the exact model you have.
Regardless, nobody will be able to give you a precise, definite answer on this. It mainly depends on how you use your host computer too...

I believe your first inference was a little "left field". I know I am "allowed to run it". I do not believe legal advice will be required.
Regarding your second question, I have a late 2010 MBP with latest Mountain Lion, VBOX, etc.
Another question was regarding the "touch screen" note on the MS site. I believe it is supplanted by the superior touchpad that the MBP comes with.
But thank you for your valuable time.

If you pass it as a USB device, you should be able to use it normally. Else the guest OS won't even see it.
