Hi,

I am trying to import an OVA into VBox.

I tried once, and it started the import with the progress bar, but then it looked like it hung at about 50%, so I cancelled the import.

I then deleted the VMDK that was there, and rebooted, and re-downloaded the OVA, and then tried an import, but now I get a popup almost immediately that says "Failed to open appliance". The VBox app seems to hang at that point, and the only way to get out of it is to use Windows Task Manager to kill it.

Anyone know why this is happening? And, also, how can I try to import again?

I should clarify: The "Failed to open appliance" popup occurs after I've selected the OVA, and as soon as I click "Next". The popup doesn't say anything else.

Sorry for the additional posts. I'm adding info as I try to figure this out.

FYI, there is no corresponding entry in the media manager for the new guest storage, i.e., the 1st OVA import didn't cause anything to appear in the media manager, at least nothing that is visible.

This is not exactly a "resolution", but I was able to get around the problem. What I did was run VMware Player, and import the OVA using that, which created a VMDK. I then created a new VBox guest, and then copied the VMDK that got extracted from the OVA by VMware Player to the VBox guest directory, and then added the VMDK to the Storage in the VBox guest.

After that I started the VBox guest, and it worked...

I would guess either :-

(A) Your problem was that a VM was created during the first import which you cancelled. This existing VM then interfered with further attempts to import.
(B) You have found a new variant on the known bug whereby the background VBoxSVC process retains a memory of media which has been removed.

Note that a bug having to do with export/import was fixed in the new v4.2.16 release, but the description doesn't sound like your problem (your problem sounds like impatience! ).
