Keep getting this error after the VM is setup and I go to select the ISO on the first OS boot.
Code: Select all

Doesn't work. I tried these steps with my VM that I tried to add the ISO. Tried to bootup again, but without an OS it failed, obviously.
Then, deleted Win8.1 completely (files and all). Re-added. Again, all the defaults. Instead of running the VM I followed the steps, except, this is for OS X so:
Code: Select all
cd /Application/VirtualBox.app/MacOS/
VBoxManage list vms # I can see my VM
VBoxManage setextradata "Win8.1 / IE11" VBoxInternal/CPUM/CMPXCHG16B 1
I then tried to double click to run it then add the ISO and I still get the same error.
"Win8.1 / IE11" is my VM name. Maybe I'm doing it wrong?

I'll put my money on the / in the name. There have been reports of special characters in the name causing issues.
Plus the # should mean root access and unless you installed using root the command will fail if you installed as a normal user.

Tried completely deleting everything and redoing it as "Win8_1" and didn't run the commands. Didn't work.
Tried completely deleting everything and redoing it as "Win8_1" with the commands above and still didn't work. Same errors.
Also, what # do you mean? The one at the end of the line? I don't know what this command does, so if you have something else for me to try (like a different number) let me know!

on a mac you don't have to change directories. just open the terminal and type... VBoxManage setextradata Win8_1 VBoxInternal/CPUM/CMPXCHG16B 1
since you don't have a space in the VM name you shouldn't need the quotes.
edit: I assume you know VirtualBox and any VM has to be closed.

No, I didn't know VirtualBox had to be closed to make changes to the VM. The VM was off, but not VB. Do I really need to quit VB to change VM settings from the command line? I'll try that tho just in case.

actually I'm not sure but won't hurt to try.

The error that you're getting seems to indicate that the ISO is corrupt. What's the md5 of your file? It should be a46318a1234a1f454e1518a2fd31651d.

Code: Select all
md5 WindowsBlue-ClientwithApps-64bit-English-X1899605.iso
MD5 (WindowsBlue-ClientwithApps-64bit-English-X1899605.iso) = b054d7f422e9e29839c829cc58bca648
This is the 2nd full download. I can try a 3rd time tho... I guess?

Code: Select all
~/Downloads/ISO-Installs/Windows-8.1$ md5sum WindowsBlue-ClientwithApps-64bit-English-X1899605.iso
a46318a1234a1f454e1518a2fd31651d WindowsBlue-ClientwithApps-64bit-English-X1899605.iso
You still have an issue I am afraid. I even tested the md5sum to be sure. Maybe try with a different browser or download client.

There was nothing wrong with the download it appears. I bought VMWare Fusion and it installed, same download, absolutely fine.

I'm glad you got it installed but I'm curious... When three different people, including myself, have the same md5 sum, which is different than the one you posted, and all three installed it in VirtualBox, where you downloaded the .iso from?
