Questions about upgrade virtualbox..

Post by Héctor »

Hi I have the VirtualBox version 4.2.0 and would like to upgrade to the new version 4.2.14 but I have a number of questions ...
1 - To update I have to uninstall the old version ... and install the new version ..
2 - If you uninstall the old version and install the new one, the settings are lost, the snapshot folder paths, vdi and so one ...

Best Regards :D

No, you should not need to uninstall the old software, but it doesn't hurt to do so either.

No, none of your VMs or settings are lost, whether or not you uninstall the old version.

If you use the GUI Virtualbox Manager, it should offer to update the Extension pack to the matching version.
Else you need to do it yourself.

Yes allright, I installed the new version over the old virtualbox and it worked perfectly and The VMs settings are not lost.

Yes allright...

Indeed when opening virtualbox asks that you download the new expansion pack, I have it downloaded on the desktop (on my computer) I have not clicked on the link that I provides Gui virtualbox Manager to install the extension pack I've downloaded directly from https://www.virtualbox.org/

How do you install?

file------>preferences------> extensions

Old extension are removed and add the new extension. Click to accept and automatically installed.

The new guestadditions are added automatically to the virtual machines eg Xubuntu OS ( My previous version was 4.2.0).

That's all....Thank you very match... :D
