Auto Capture Keyboard

Post by php111 »

Hey, I'm running Windows 7 and I'm new to using VirtualBox and it's my first time using it. I tried to install Ubuntu Server 12.04 via VirtualBox on my Windows 7, and I can't make it pass the language selection. All I get is something about the HOST Key and something about Auto Capture Keyboard which I'm not understanding, and when I click English and I get the Auto Capture Keyboard message so I click Create and my mouse disappears from the screen. How can I get this to work? Thank you for any help!

The "host key" is configurable, but usually it's the right ctrl key. Pressing this key toggles mouse capture on and off in the guest. There's no such thing as keyboard capture AFAIK: as always in Windows, keystrokes go to the currently selected window.

Later on you can install the Guest Additions in the VM, which adds an integrated mouse, i.e. no need to toggle between guest and host.

If you need further help then please give accurate descriptions of the problem. I need to know actual error messages, not "something like". Also distinguish between messages coming from VirtualBox, which will generally appear inside a host dialog box, and messages coming from the guest OS, which will appear on the VM display.
