Installation on Windows 7 failed
Installation on Windows 7 failed
In Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 I downloaded and executed VirtualBox-4.2.14-86644-Win.exe.
When I execute VirtualBox.exe I get a popup window that states:
Failed to create the VirtualBox COM object
The application will now terminate
Callee RC: E_NOINTERFACE (0X80004002)
I find no references to this error in the manual nor on the forum. Can anyone tell me what is wrong?

Re: Installation on Windows 7 failed
This usually indicates a bad install. You should uninstall reboot and install again.

Thanks for your quick reply.
I tried your suggestion; I also downloaded VirtualBox-4.2.14-86644-Win.exe again.
Same error.

Re: Installation on Windows 7 failed
When you installed it did you right click the install and select to run as admin?

Re: Installation on Windows 7 failed
I am having exactly the same problem. I tried the suggested route of installing as Administrator without any luck.

Re: Installation on Windows 7 failed
I am having the same problem here. I ended up installing 4.2.14 three times. It always failed to come up after installation with the very error message others have posted here. Eventually, I reverted to 4.2.12, which instantly worked.
I tried this on a 32-bit Windows 7 host.

-Markus

Re: Installation on Windows 7 failed
I have the same problem. Windows 7 32-bit Host. Downloaded the update (currently running 4.2.12 r 84980). I have uninstalled and re-installed old, new, etc. Same error each and every time. When I un-install v 4.2.14 and reinstall 4.2.12 it runs fine. I'm staying with 4.2.12 until this is fixed.
Re: Installation on Windows 7 failed
I'm also unable to upgrade from Virtualbox 4.2.12 to 4.2.14 on my Win7 x64. When I first started the installer, I got a BSOD when the network drivers are to be installed. After a reboot, the old installation wasn't working anymore (it shows the error from the thread starter "Failed to create the VirtualBox COM object"), but the installer of 4.2.14 is now unable to install (see attachment). Then I manually deleted the folder C:\Program Files\Oracle and tried the installer again, with the same error.
Please help.
Edit: Now I tried to install 4.2.12 - it worked fine! So 4.2.14 seems to be broken...

Re: Installation on Windows 7 failed
Does it install if you uninstall v4.2.12 first?
Re: Installation on Windows 7 failed
I just tested that. No, I still get the same error if I want to install 4.2.14 after I uninstalled 4.2.12.
Re: Installation on Windows 7 failed
Some days ago I did a fresh Windows 7 install. There weren't any problems with a fresh Virtualbox 4.2.14 install as well as an upgrade to 4.2.16.

Re: Installation on Windows 7 failed
I dont believe my IT department is going to want to do a fresh installation of WIndows 7 becasue one application wont install. Is there any way we can get infromation as to why it is failing, and how to correctly get it to install? There must be something specific someone has found.
