Hi Folks, I hope you can help.
When I update VBox it changes my Centos passwords, both for superuser and user. Now I've updated to 4.2.14 I can't log in. Last time I had to rip everything down and start again. I do not want to have to do that again as I have put tons of time and effort into getting the sites I'm hosting just right.
If anyone can please explain to me how to restore my passwords I'd be very grateful.
Cheers, Bruce

Update, I've managed to get into a user account, can I edit the passwords file from there?

It is impossible that installing VirtualBox would in any way effect the guests password file. Most of the time the user simply forgets the password for root due to lack of use.

Re: Updating causing Major Issue!
Hi Perryg,
Yes forgetfulness can be an issue for some, but seeing as I've always used the same password whenever I do this I think there may be something else going on here. I agree it should be impossible, but that's the kind of life I have. If something is impossible, it will happen to me
Thanks for replying though

I know the feeling I assure you. I would seek assistance from the guest OS distro on resetting the root password.

Re: Updating causing Major Issue!
I used to be able to get in to change the password during the grub section, using the press 'e' then select the init line and start as 1 or S user, then edit the pwd. Now I don't have access to that process. Pressing 'e' does nothing. The only options I have in Grub are to use an earlier kernel, or to enter a password for doing other things. Hmm
