Windows VM's knocking me off VPN

Hello,
I'm attempting to use VirtualBox to emulate various versions of Windows for technical support reasons. However, when I start a VirtualBox machine, I am being knocked off my VPN. My real network connection is via ethernet. I have no network adapters enabled in the settings for my virtual machines, however, I do have a USB filter enabled for a USB wifi adapter (I want the virtual machines to use wifi). Does anyone have any idea how I can configure my VM's in such a way that it won't interrupt my VPN connection on my host OS (Win 7x64)? Thanks!
Jeff
