Error: Cannot retrieve metalink for repository: fedora/18/i3

I had to reinstall VirtualBox and Fedora because I have too much junk on my laptop and so I decided to move VM to my external hard drive

I couldn't figure out a clear cut way to do that so I "jury rigged" a solution that is working so far.

Disclaimer: I am an extremely motivated beginner in Linux.

Anyhow, I successfully re-installed Fedora a few days ago with an 8 GB hard drive...with the exception that when I updated it, I ran out of room in the root partition.

I tried Googling a solution, but they all seemed too complicated, so I decided to scrap it and start again.

When I reinstalled the Fedora this time, I made the hard drive 15 GB...hoping that will be plenty of room.

However when I tried to run the update, I got the above error:

"Error: Cannot retrieve metalink for repository: fedora/18/i386. Please verify its path and try again"

I Googled the solution and again came across various sites that gave suggestions. I tried a few and did not get very far.

What really puzzled me was that I had just successfully installed and updated Fedora two days ago...or at least the updates had started until I ran out of room. What was I doing wrong?

After clicking on various programs and changing various settings, I remember that when I installed the Fedora this time, I had selected that the network connection be bridged.

I'm using an internet service that requires authentication. I thought it would automatically connect since the host computer is connected, but apparently it didn't.

Once I realized that, I opened Firefox inside of Fedora, authenticated the internet connection, then ran the update again successfully.

I just wanted to post this in case there is someone that gets this error that didn't think to check their internet connection...a much simpler solution than some of the suggestions I found when I Googled.

Could you try again? I think you just tried to install VBox when the repository was about to be updated.
