When I ssh into my guest system, DISPLAY isn't set. I'd thought it was something specific to that Linux, so I created a NetBSD guest system too. Same problem.
I've managed to do this in the past, using Xming and putty just like I am now. I've tried all the obvious stuff—I don't know what else I could be missing. Suggestions welcome.

Did you define X11 forwarding for your ssh session? (ssh -X ...)

Putty's "Enable X11 forwarding" is checked. Also enabled in sshd_config on the guests. Xming is running.
