DNS addressing

Post by patrick82 »

So i have a VB setup running
Server 2008 =
IP 10.0.2.15
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
gateway: 10.2.2.2
DNS: 10.2.2.2
Ubuntu 12 10.0.2.16
Vista Business 10.0.2.17
Window XP Pro 10.0.2.18
Win 7 Pro 10.0.2.19
Windows 8 10.0.2.20
I am trying to get each system to connect to a domain i created in Server 2008, i know the Domain Name, however my issue is Addressing. When i go and add the next system to the domain its telling me incorrect DNS - cant be found... i thought i was suppose to use the same DNS address for everything. Any idea on the DNS and Gateway address i should be using in order to get these system to connect to the domain.

ALSO note: I did right click and go into NETWORK setting and changed it to HOST -adapter ---

Please help me with my addressing.
thank you.

Which system has the address 10.2.2.2 and is running the DNS server, is this your router? And did you add the DNS records for all these addresses?

A domain needs to run in its own network with its own IP subnet. Your IP suggests that you are using NAT on the server. This will not work with Active Directory.
Put the server in an internal network and give it an static IP in its own subnet. Put the other AD machines in the same internal network and give them static addresses in the same network (or install DHCP on the server and have them get their network config automatically).
