Auto-Resize Settings Not Saving

Post by Bobio »

Windows 8 Host, Virtualbox 4.2.12.

Any guest setup after I updated from Virtualbox 4.2.10 to 4.2.12 seem to be experiencing this issue, all guests installed prior to the update are fine.

What happens with clients with Guest Additions installed is the size I set them to is not persistent.

They will retain the size if I reboot the guest but if you shut down, the next time it is started it revers back to the default as set in preferences.

I tried to search here but I had no luck finding threads on this specific problem.

Thanks

I don't think that's a VirtualBox problem. It's the guest OS itself which retains a memory of what display mode was in use on last shutdown. It sets that display mode and VBox automatically adapts the window size. VirtualBox does remember the last display size too, but the guest OS can override what VBox remembers... and I suspect that's what happens in your case.

I have a vague memory of suffering a similar problem, and to fix it I first had to convince the guest OS that it needed to store a different display size. So I deliberately set a display size I didn't want. Shut down, start up. Now set the display size I do want, shut down and start up.
