Hi
1) I need the snapshots, deleting is no option
2) "Cloning" does not allow me to select a directory - and my system drive (SSD) is not large enough to hold the clone of the image


what can I do?

EDIT: I now tried to merge the snapshots in a manual copy of the VM. merging is not possible?! - probably because I resized the base image already?! What can I do now (besides deleting snapshots and reseting vm to base image)

1) You cannot resize snapshots. You need a VM without snapshots.
2) You can set the VM Default folder to where should the clone be located for the time of the clone, then change it back. Or you can use vboxmanage clonevm

I'm surprised you used Snapshots at all if you're running on an SSD. That data history must eat up a humungous chunk of the disk.

It is easy to control where the clone will be created. Just run the GUI and configure the File|Preferences|General|Default Machine Folder setting prior to creating the clone.

Also, I would think that on a Windows host the GUI is preferable to the command line when making clones. After configuring the above field you right click the VM and select "Clone". You should select full clone, current state only, and do NOT reset the MAC address.
