VirtualBox has Taken Over My Ethernet Card

Post by Mickers »

I woke up to a another normal day and turned on my machine. However today, after a windows 8 update last night, VirtualBox has decided to completely take over my ethernet card and now it believes it's a "VirtualBox Host-Only Network"....

What the heck happend? I installed and attempted to use virtual box MONTHS ago and have completely forgotten it existed since then.

Steps I've taken:
Followed this guide to remove the files. It won't let me link it....
Reset my computer to may 25th. This took forever. And that's after attempting to reset to before the update.

What is there that I can do? :?:

Ok before I get ahead of myself I might have overlooked something.

It could be that my ethernet adapter is not functioning properly and has not been taken over by vb and that the vb connection has always been there I just ignored it.

Still working on this problem any thoughts would be appreciated.

When you install VirtualBox it creates a Host Only interface on the host machine so that the host can communicate with the guest directly (if required). If you do not need it, simply delete it (from network an sharing center on the host).

If you NIC is not working, the Host Only adapter will be the only one that Windows 8 can see, so it assumes that it is your network connection.

When you replace the NIC and delete the host only adapter it should all come back to normal.
