Debian wheezy guest freezing on boot after grub

Occasionally my Debian Wheezsy VM will hang during boot. If I choose safe mode I can see it freezes when it reaches 'Switching to clocksource tsc'. The VM was created with vagrant but the freeze occurs whether I start via vagrant or through the virtualbox ui directly.
The only way I can resolve this is to reboot the host machine which solves the problem for a while.
Virtualbox log is attached. Also raised as a ticket 11859.

The log shows no problem with the VM that I can see. It's only the guest that has apparently hung (though 30 seconds is not a long time), the VM itself is running fine.
IMHO you were a bit quick off the mark posting a ticket for this.

Fair enough. That said, after rebooting the host machine the guest will then start normally. This would suggest the problem is not with the guest image itself but some kind of interaction with the VM.

If you can find out what the guest is doing when it hangs, then perhaps it would be clearer why some things you do on the host seem to have an effect (e.g. rebooting the host may change the contents of uninitialized memory, or reset a network connection).
