Windows 8- Can't get Guest Additions to work..

Hello,

I have tried to install "Guest Additions" under the "Devices" menu and it does mount. However, when I click on the executable (VBoxWindowAddition.exe) the following error message pops up:

An error occurred while loading the archive

Did I forget to do something in the installation or is something else wrong? I am running XUBUNTU 12.10 using a Windows 8 host.
Thank you for your help.

You were right! Those instructions were very helpful and got me almost all the way although there appears to be one more problem...

I am sharing a folder on my Windows host called "For_Ubuntu." Under "shared folder", I checked off "Make Permanent" and "Auto-Mount."
Subsequently, Virtual Box creates a directory in /media/ directory (of all places), called "sf_For_Ubuntu" which represents the shared folder.

However, now I am unable to access this shared folder on the Virtual Box. I have tried "cd" ,"chmod" and I am just unable to access, change, or view that folder in any way, shape or form. The only think I have been able to do is "sudo mv" of guest files into it. It appears to be complaining about lack of permissions:

bash: cd: sf_For_Ubuntu/: Permission denied

How do I remove this restriction and access my shared folders on my Virtual Box Linux guest? Is the problem that the shared folder is stored in the /media/ directory?
Thank you.

Virtual Box creates a directory in /media/ directory (of all places)
Where else would it put it? It is the right place when you use Linux. You can change the mount point if you like. It's all in the users manual.

Here is a Web link to the section you can use instead of the one that you have installed on your machine.

http://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch04.h ... mount_auto

It also explains what you need to do to be able to use the share.

Ahh.. Thank you! I will read the manual more carefully now.
