VT-X: Attepting to load a 64-bit application...

Hi,
I wanted to create a windows vista 64-bit box. The host is a 64bit vista, too. The bios is AMI v1.7 12/09/2008 on a MS-7519 main board. It is not clear to me, how I have to change the settings to setup the OS of the box: The error message says
Attempting to load a 64-bit application, however this CPU is not compatible with 64bit mode.
In the status bar of the virutal box I can see, that VT-X is disabled.
I did not find any switch my bios that might be related to this configuration.
Can anyone tell me, what I could change in the bios or in the box-settings? I have activated IO-APCI (I've read that somewhere), but it does not help.
Thanks,
Peter

You can only run 64bit guests in VBox if you enable VT-x, which of course you can only do if your host supports it. You have not said what your host CPU is.

It is a Intel Core Duo E7400 with 2.80GHz, CPU-Z says: "Wolfdale, Socket 775 LGA, Family6, Model 7, Stepping A, Ext.Model 17, Revision R0".
I've checked wikipedia: Wolfdale_(microprocessor) - no VT-X support. It was not clear to me, that is based on the CPU. Based on some forum threads I read I thought it is a bios setting.
I only have a licence for a vista 64bit image, so do I have any chance to build a virutal box with an windows image?

The VT-x feature must exist in the CPU, and be enabled in the BIOS. I thought that if you have a Vista license then you can downgrade to 32bits or to XP, but only Microsoft can give definitive answers regarding their licensing rules.

The E7400 exists with and without VT-x, see

thanks. I've been looking now for a while for a tool to retrieve the ordering code or spec code to determine which CPU Version I have.
CPU-Z does not expose this information, does it?
Do you know I tool I could use?
I removed the cover of the desktop, but to read the number I would have to remove the fan?
Or maybe to shorten this a little bit. Assuming my CPU supports VT-X where would I find it in the bios settings?

There is no standard place or name, you would have to ask your laptop manufacturer about that. It's usually tucked away in a security submenu, and will be named something like "Intel Virtualization Technology: enable/disable".
An Intel tool that should tell you if you have VT-x is here (look for "Intel Processor Identification Utility" about halfway down) :-
