i had it set to a bridged adapter and when i got into my Debian VM, i would do ifconfig and get my external ip that i could use for others to connect to my server / remote desktop

however brighthouse came out and switched their equiptment with our old company and ive tried all the different bridged adapters i still now only see brighthouse's new Local IP.

any help or information is appreciated. :)

P.S Host is Windows 8

You are probably going to need to contact them. Sounds like you may have been port forwarding in the old router and it is not the same with the new equipment, but that is just a guess without knowing the exact setup.

ah i see, i didnt think the port forwarding would stop my box from using external instead of a internal IP, i still have a normal internet connection for browsing and what not. just can't use it as a server side network.

It depends on equipment and how it is configured. If it is a route-able IP and not a private IP address then the routing has to come from somewhere. In any case since it worked before they switched out equipment it would be a question for the provider that setup the equipment.
