Failed to open/create internal network problem.

Post by Evolvish »

I've had this problem a while with an alfa036nh usb antenna. when I try to start the VM I get the error:
Failed to open/create internal network 'HostInterfaceNetworking-802.11n USB Wireless Lan Card' (VERR_INTNET_IF_NOT_FOUND) Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005) Component: Console, Interface: IConsole {db7ab4ca-2a3f-4183-9243-c1208da92392} Any help is appreciated.

The error is just telling you that it can't find the interface under that precise name. I guess your network interface name has changed at some point
Try to reconfigure the VM network - choose anything else (like NAT), save, then configure back to Bridged.

I just tried what you said but I still get error, I just got the antenna it and I've never been able to get it to work in virtualbox

You are trying to bridge on your wifi usb card :

Code: Select all

NIC 1: MAC: 080027FF4812, Attachment: Bridged Interface '802.11n USB W
ireless LAN Card', Cable connected: on, Trace: off (file: none), Type: Am79C973,
Reported speed: 0 Mbps, Boot priority: 0, Promisc Policy: allow-all, Bandwidth
group: none
but you also have it setup in your USB filters on top of a blank filter! :

Code: Select all

USB Device Filters:

Index: 0
Active: yes
Name: New Filter 1
VendorId:
ProductId:
Revision:
Manufacturer:
Product:
Remote:
Serial Number:

Index: 1
Active: yes
Name: 802.11n USB Wireless Lan Card
VendorId: 148f
ProductId: 3070
Revision: 0101
Manufacturer: Ralink
Product: 802.11n USB Wireless Lan Card
Remote:
Serial Number: 1.0
So you're trying to bridge on a host device that you've captured and is no longuer available in the host...

Remove the USB filters if you want to use it in the host.
If you want it to appear in the guest, only keep the 2nd filter (the one with actual data in it) and disable the NIC in the VM config.

Disable the network adapter? I don't see anything like NIC.

I wanted to be able to use the usb adapter in windows and virtualbox. It worked with the built-in wifi adapter. I can only get the vm to work when the usb is working on windows.

Okay I got it to work in the guest but I have no way to connect to the internet, the vm shows usb activity but how am I supposed to connect? I believe the problem is I can't install the drivers with wine

If you want to keep using usb filtering, you cannot have it both in the guest and the host. You must choose (USB can only be used by one entity).

The other way is to use :
1) NAT which works out of the box if wifi is your default interface
2) Host-Only which requires network knowledge
3) Bridged but with Wifi, it can or cannot work and nothing can be done about it.

Anything else like guest or host OS configuration or networking configuration is out of scope of this forum. Virtualbox is only a hardware simulator, the rest is up to the OS & you.
