System running in low-graphics mode[also crashing VBOX]
System running in low-graphics mode[also crashing VBOX]
I have Virtual box 4.2.12
I have downloaded the ubuntu .ISO
ubuntu-12.04.2-desktop-i386.iso
I followed installation process, when installation ended the button "restart now" is showed. I click it, Virtual Box Crash.
I have to terminate it. ok
I start again the VM, shows ubuntu loading for several minutes, then I get following screen:
"System is running in low graphics mode: your screen, graphics card and input device settings could not be detected correctly. You will need to configure these yourself"
I click OK,
A dialog with 4 options shows up:
-Run in low-graphics mode for just 1 session
-Reconfigure Graphics
-Troubleshoot the errorr
-Exit to console login
I tried various tutorials and caveats. No one works. (endless tentatives, blog, video-tutorials on you tube). Once I get the dialog with 4 ooptions I can no longer go on.
What I have to do to have ubuntu working on windows vista?

Re: System running in low-graphics mode[also crashing VBOX]
Known problem, fixed in SVN.
For the meantime you can use this guest additions.:

Re: System running in low-graphics mode[also crashing VBOX]
Either drop to a tty window or boot in rescue mode. Then you can install the guest additions.
Re: System running in low-graphics mode[also crashing VBOX]
in terminal mode I can't install guest additions it says:
"mount /dev/cdrom /mnt
mount: only root can do that"
so I can't execute other commands:
"cd /mnt
./VBoxLinuxAdditions.run
reboot"
"mount /dev/cdrom /mnt
mount: only root can do that"
so I can't execute other commands:
"cd /mnt
./VBoxLinuxAdditions.run
reboot"

Re: System running in low-graphics mode[also crashing VBOX]
That don't work
my steps:
1) I login as root
2) I type
mount /dev/cdrom /mnt
cd /mnt
./VBoxLinuxAdditions.run --target ../home/username
here's the output:
Creating directory ../home/username
Verifying archive integrity... All good.
Uncompressing VirtualBox 4.2.12 Guest Additions for Linux............
Extraction failed.
..Terminated.

Re: System running in low-graphics mode[also crashing VBOX]
Sounds like a corrupt download. Check the MD5 or download another copy.
Re: System running in low-graphics mode[also crashing VBOX]
I tried downloading twice from following link:
http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualb ... 4.2.12.iso
the error is always the same.. anyway the archive should be ok ("verifying archive integrity. .. allgood").
Checksums (from 7-zip file manager):

checksums are ok.

Re: System running in low-graphics mode[also crashing VBOX]
Why are you extracting anyway?
Just run it to install. Does it fail then?

Re: System running in low-graphics mode[also crashing VBOX]
this is exactly what I type in the terminal
if I skip the
the terminal say me that "/mnt" folder is "read-only" and cant execute.
"mkdr: cannot create directory "tmp/selfgz.... blabla" readonly filesystem can't create directory "temp/self..." you should try option "--target OtherDirectory"
Code: Select all
mount /dev/cdrom /mnt
cd /mnt

Re: System running in low-graphics mode[also crashing VBOX]
cd /mnt then drill to the the VBoxLinux*.run file is.
then run it ./VBoxLinux....run
then run it ./VBoxLinux....run
Re: System running in low-graphics mode[also crashing VBOX]
That's what I already tried
the output is the same as above. It says that the folder is readonly. The file is found correctly. It just fails to execute it.
the directory is correct, if I write
few files are showed and "VBoxLinuxAdditions.run" is showed too.
EDIT:
in the case I tried to install Ubuntu 13 and I get all the problems already reported :/
