restoring after HD failure

A short while ago, my boot drive failed, but I was able to recover the contents before decomissioning the drive.
The VB app was installed on that drive, and then all my .vdi files were stored on yet a third drive. So really nothing was lost.

But now I want to restore VB to it's previous state, all the machines, etc. When I reinstalled to reinstall the App on the new drive, all the info about what machines were what is now separated, but I have entire drive backed up elsewhere.

How do I restore everything to the way it was before, with all the machines, etc. I assume it's just moving some folders and files from the backup to some location, but I don't know which files, and I don't know which location.

(Windows 7x64)

thanks

Are there Snapshots for the machines? If yes, difficult. There are possibilities, but i have not checked this, so better a person who has done this answer you for that scenario.

If you are not using Snapshots (One Machine, one vdi file): Simply create a new guest pointing to the old vdi file.

First of all : Did you backup the VM folder? Do you have the .vbox? If you do, you simply need to move the VM folder on your new disk and use the "Add..." function.
If you only have the main VDI, then you'll need to create a new Virtual Machine and add the VDI to it. And if you used snapshots, you are in trouble...

Yes, that did it. I have never had to do this before, and forgot about the .vbox files.

thanks
