VM with WIN8 host crashes

Dear Community,

this is my first post after searching if anybody already has posted a similar question - I din't find any.

So; here is my problem. I have VirtualBox running on Vista for years. Now I upgraded one of my hosts to WIN8 and reinstalled VirtualBox again (actual version 4.2.12 r84980).
I tried several ways to start the VM's again but every time when the Guest is starting the operation system, WIN8 freezes and the host restarts without being asked.

I then created a complete new VM (Ubuntu guest) under WIN8 host to see if there is the same problem - and unfortunately it is. When the first screen of the Ubuntu system appears; a moment later WIN8 is gone completely.

Details from the system of the host:
Processor: AMD Athlonb 64x2 Dual Core 4600+ 2.4GHz
RAM 2GB
System: 32bit OS x64 based Processor
Windows 8 Pro

Attached the Log-file of the Virtual Box:
Probesystem-2013-05-31-12-00-05.log
Log of VirtualBox
(47.66 KiB) Downloaded 16 times
.

Does somebody know why this happens or does somebody has some more ideas what I have to do?

Thanks a lot
Obbes

I think you're just running out of RAM - 2 GB is just not enough for Windows 8 AND a VM.

Hi noteirak,

I have searched how much RAM I may need but - againg - wasn't able to find an answer.

So; how much RAM you would recommend?

Windows 8 alone wouldn't run proper without 2 GB RAM, and ubuntu would require 512 MB to 1GB.
Given the fact you need room for the virtualization overhead and to avoid swapping to disk, I wouldn't run anything under 4 GB RAM, and even that is the minimum.
