Debian - Critical Error

Post by tole »

This is message I got after fresh installation of Debian.
Log is attached. Virtualbox on windows 8.:
A fatal error has occurred during virtual machine execution! The virtual machine will be powered off. Please copy the following error message using the clipboard to help diagnose the problem:
The guest is trying to switch to the PAE mode which is currently disabled by default in VirtualBox. PAE support can be enabled using the VM settings (General/Advanced).
Error ID: PAEmode
Severity: Fatal Error
selecting 486 and not 686-pae boot fine.

Why is that?

Did you turn PAE on?

Guest settings -> System -> Processor -> enable PAE/NX

Thanks,
Didn't know about this option.
I am guessing this is my problem. I'll give it a try.

  • That's an almost 4 year old thread. You didn't find anything more ... recent, right?
  • The solution is clearly outlined in the error message, although after 4 years I don't know if it's still valid. I believe it is, that's why I'm not locking the thread. Did you follow the instructions?
The guest is trying to switch to the PAE mode which is currently disabled by default in VirtualBox. PAE support can be enabled using the VM settings (General/Advanced).
  • If you did, and that didn't work open, see Minimum information needed for assistance. Do not forget to ZIP the most important clue; the VBox.log for the affected VM.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.
Do NOT reply with the "QUOTE" button, please use the "POST REPLY", at the bottom of the form.
If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.
