vbox manager doesnt show menu bar

hi everyone,
i have installed virtualbox 4.2.12 on Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS. When i open virtualbox it does not show the File Machine Help menu bar. I only see the tool bar which has some buttons like New, Settings, Start on the left and Details, snapshots on the right. Without the menu bar i cannot install VBox GuestAddition on new VM, or import/export ...
also in terminal it shows the following error:

however when i open virtualbox as root the menu shows up. I think the cause of the issue is something related to permission here.
Does anyone has any idea or has the same problem?

New to Ubuntu?

Ubuntu - unity moved all title bar functions to the Unity top bar.

Starting VirtualBox as root (never a good idea) will change the VBOX_USER_HOME environment and that could cause permission issue for normal user.

Thank Perryg, now I notice that the menu bar is on top of Unity :P
Yes, i am new to Ubuntu. Thanks to your help i can run vbox as normal user from now.
What do u think about the error message? as my Vbox is running normally should i simply ignore it?

No idea. I don't see errors like these unless you are using the Ubuntu repository version of VirtualBox. (which we do not support)

Came across this using OpenSuSE Leap 41.3, VB 5.1.32. solution if the main management menu.
select a machine in left column.
in right window collapse each window by the right hand arrow in each box.
mouse cursor to bottom of window just above size adjustment
right click mouse button
small menu appears with two tick boxes tick menu
