No, sorry!

I've always had the COM error, it has never been to the point as it should when it functions properly (or even installs!)

Do a full uninstall, reboot, then install again and give it another try.

That didn't work!

Same COM message!

Is it because I have the VM's installed from my module on 2008?

I have just completed a course on windows server 2008, in which I had to install it one vm, and clone it 3 times. Would these still being installed have anything to do with it?

you mean installing Windows 2008 in a Virtualbox VM, then clone it 3 times? No it wouldn't be an issue.
But let's start from the begining : how did you install Virtualbox to begin with? Exact detailed steps please.

My desktop version installed properly.

My laptop:

I installed VirtualBox (the latest version), accepted all the defaults.
No problem with installing and cloning Windows Server 2008 (32-bit asked for for doing the course module I have just done - 512MB allocated and 25GB disk space used for each VM)
When setting up a vm for 2012 (64-bit), I:
allocated 1.5GB RAm
64 GB HDD
1 CPU
No GPU hardware acceleration

So you are able to modify the VM settings? And you only get the COM error when trying to start the machines?

I am able to modify the settings.

That is correct, I only get the COM error on startup, however, I cannot boot into Server 2012 so startup is the furthest I get!

Could you post the VBoxSVC.log, from the .Virtualbox folder within your home directory please.
