I have a Virtualbox installation built with the OTN database developer template, so I have a working 11g database on Oracle Enterprise Linux.

I've downloaded the Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) installer and unzipped it inside the VM.

When I attempt to execute runInstaller it complains that the file is not executable. I'm an experienced Oracle DBA who works on Linux hosts everyday, so I checked permissions and ownerships and everything is set properly.

Is there something in Virtualbox that would prevent installations of this sort?

Not really.

I would test the cksum, verify that the x bit is set on the file, and see what the install instructions say.

I also posted this question on the MOS Comminuty for OEM and got the same answer over there. Great minds think alike.

The problem is actually that I'm trying to install 64-bit binaries on a 32-bit O/S.
