Use "Add" or just "Copy & Paste" ?

Hello,
Primary PC: Windows 8 64bit host with Windows XP 32bit guest
Secondary PC: Windows 7 64bit host with Windows XP 32bit guest
Same basic XP Guest setup running on both host PCs
Awhile back, I transitioned from secondary PC to primary PC by exporting and then importing my XP guest VM. VirtualBox is running great on primary PC. Weekly, I copy the VM folder on my primary PC to an external hard drive as a backup. The VM on the secondary PC is now about a month out of date. I'm wondering if I can just "copy & paste" the VM folder from the primary PC to the secondary PC so I have a current version of the VM on that PC as an update/backup? Or do I need to use the "add" or "import" function in VirtualBox? Please excuse the ignorant question but I want to make sure I don't somehow destroy the functional VirtualBox installation on the secondary PC due to some stupid newbie move. Thank you for the always helpful advice.
