failing to receive IP in Vbox

Hi, I am new to this service.
Have centos 6.4 running on VMware and Vbox on an LVM disk.
Trying to run a guest machine on it. When I activate machine (centos, again) with vboxheadless it works (checked it with list runningvms);
how ever when I try to ssh in to it from Putty or even other machine it won't let me.
Infact I can't even see it's ip? Any ideas? thank you

Well since you are starting it headless, you do not have console access to it directly, so there is obviously something wrong with your VM config or with your guest config.
Try connecting to the VRDE server and check on the console directly the IP, or for any error message.

Do I understand correctly that you are trying to run a VM within a VM? Because that is not supported.

Thank you and yes you do understand correctly,
I have windows as my main OS on that I've created a VMware workstation; on it I have my CentOS 6.4 LVM server
on that I have loaded the VB and finally on that I loaded another machine (first Ubuntu now Centos).

So.. if I understand correctly, this can't work?
I am fresh out of Linux sys-admin course and I love it- the above is a project I've assigned to my self to I could practice..
t\Thanks for your reply

I am not saying it is not working, I would think it would work, as long as you don't try anything fancy (3D & co), but if you run into problems, you'll be on your own :)
Your issue at the moment is that you do not see the console and cannot troubleshoot, and like I said, you need to see it using the VRDE server. See User Manual.

I would still not run A VM inside a VM for learning purposes - you would end up on issues due to your non-supported setup, and not see all the features of VB.

Ok, I get it. Also started working on the VRDE, however,
isn't there a simple way to see ip adress?
I tryed it with guest propertis showvminfo arp-scan... am I missing any?
This will be my last question on the topic thanx again

If you installed the guest additions, you can see the IP with the guest properties yes. If not, then you must see it from within the guest, just like if you had a 2nd computer next to you.
