Host key don't answer

Post by Nhibel »

Hello !
First, english is not my first language, so please excuse me if I make lot of mistakes :)

So my system is a Windows 7 64bits family edition, and I use it at work. To use an old software that doesn't run on Windows 7, I have installed virtualbox, to emulate Windows XP. The instalation is complete, I can use the XP, but when virtulbox is running, I can't return to my host system. I know I have to use Ctrl right, and he is defined in the configuration of virtualbox. The icon of the host key in the bottom of the virtualbox window is green when I start the XP session, but it turn grey after some seconds...So I am blocked in the windows xp session.
When I run XP, I have 2 pointer, the one of XP that I can use, and the one from my host system which don't respond when I move it. And to return to my host system, I must shut down XP.
I've searched a lot on Internet but i didn't find any solution...
So... if someone here could help me, it would be very great !
Thanks in advance :)

Install the guest additions into the guest, then I'm sure you'll find the experience much smoother. You'll have an integrated mouse cursor for a start.

For details see chapter 4 of the user manual.

Ok, I've installed the guest additions, but now, my cursor in XP session is invisible (but still here), and I still can't go back to my host session without shut down XP :/ The host key doesn't react when I press it, I don't know what to do now...

You don't need the host key if you installed the GAs. An integrated mouse means that a single mouse cursor serves both host and guest. There is no requirement to switch between the two.

If that isn't what you are seeing then I suspect that you have not in fact installed the GAs. To check that I would need to see a VM log file: see Minimum information needed for assistance.

Well, I think I've find the solution, I enable the 2D and 3D graphic acceleration, and now I can go in and out betwin the host and guest, but I have now an other problem ><
When the XP session is running, I lose the keyboard for the host, every text I type is going for the guest and note for the host, even if the cursor is in the host session...
Hope there is a solution for this new problem :)
EDIT : Ok, I found the solution... just disable in virtualbox the usb peripheric...

Thanks for the help :)

That problem only happens if you grab the hosts keyboard using a USB filter. Just correct the filter so that the host keyboard and mouse is not grabbed.
