Menu and panels invisible in guest Ubuntu 13.04

Post by Dyosk »

Hello!
I've installed guest Ubuntu 13.04 x32 (host Windows 7 x64)
Top panel and left menu were at their places
Then I've installed guest additions (from machine menu, not from ubuntu repo) and top panel and left menu have become invisible
I mean, I can only see the shadow from the top panel but I can select calendar, sound, network etc
I can also run firefox or libre office from left menu though I see no icons, they are invisible
I've googled a lot, tried different fixes that seem to work for other people, no use at all. Please help. Here's the output of

Code: Select all

/usr/lib/nux/unity_support_test -p

OpenGL vendor string: Humper
OpenGL renderer string: Chromium
OpenGL version string: 2.1 Chromium 1.9

Not software rendered: yes
Not blacklisted: yes
GLX fbconfig: yes
GLX texture from pixmap: yes
GL npot or rect textures: yes
GL vertex program: yes
GL fragment program: yes
GL vertex buffer object: yes
GL framebuffer object: yes
GL version is 1.4+: yes

Unity 3D supported: yes
Here's the screenshot, you can see the shadow from the top panel )))

A VM log file would be useful. Please read Minimum information needed for assistance.

There are a number of "lock down" options described in section 9.20 of the user manual. Have you attempted to use any of these?

ok thanks, I've looked thru options described in section 9.20, I don't need any of them and haven't used them.
The screenshot I've attached is cut in paint not to include VirtualBox menu and status bar on the purpose if that's what you mean :-)

In that case I don't know what you're referring to. VirtualBox doesn't control menus and other widgets painted by the guest, though disabling 3D acceleration has been known to help with painting problems - that and switching to a different desktop engine in the guest, though I'm not a Linux user and can't help much with that.

Make sure there aren't any other guest additions installed from Ubuntu. Normally it comes preinstalled with a couple. Try running

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get remove virtualbox*
you may have to reinstall the guest additions from the menu after that.
