Hello

Please can you help a frustrated VirtualBox 'Newbie'. I have been searching the extensive forum but unable to find a solution to my current predicament.

I have just upgraded our old & dilapidated PC's in our office to 2 MacMini's & 1 MacPro (MacBook Pro to add). I successfully installed VB on Macs with no problems, then installed Windows 7, no problems. The Macs are shared with each other, file sharing, etc, no problems. The Macs are running Windows 7 OK within VB. All Macs are connected through LAN to Wireless Router, connecting to the internet OK.

The problem I have is that I can not create a small network in Win 7. I would like to be able to create a small network within Win 7 (MacPro as the Server). At the moment I can not get the Macs to network within Win 7. The Macs when running Win 7 can not see the other Macs/Pc's in the network, I can not create what Win 7 call a 'Home' Network. The irony is that I only want to run one piece of software in Win 7, which is our accounts programme. The programme though needs to be networking to work correctly.

Please can you help me resolve my Win 7 networking problem within VM, all your help & assistance will be greatly appreciated.
If I can provide you with some more information to help, I will endeavour, but please note that I'am very new to VM.

Going to need some more information first.
From the hosts terminal type VBoxManage showvminfo <VM Name> --details and post here. Replace <VM Name> with the actual name of the VM. Use " " if the name has a space in it.

Also from the guests command windows the results of ipconfig /all

Not sure how to open the terminal window since I don't use a Mac. You should be able to Google it though. As for the other information it would be better to send as text, but if you don't know how then a screen shot will do. See below the window you are replying in and see the Upload attachment. Follow the bouncing ball as it were.

I already see your issue.

You have the network set to use VBox NAT and you need it to use Bridged instead. Set this in the guest settings with the guest shut down (not in saved mode)
You would probably want to use static addressing in the guest if you intend to access it from the LAN instead of DHCP too.

Thank you. Please can I confirm in simply laymen terms. Shut down guest (Win 7). In the VM Manager click Settings, then Network, under Adaptor 1 set the Attached to: from NAT to Bridged Adaptor. Nothing else.

Please could you do me a big favour & explain what you meant with " You would probably want to use static addressing in the guest if you intend to access it from the LAN instead of DHCP too". I am not that experienced in setting up computers, sorry.

Yes change the setting from NAT to Bridged.

In your guest and under the networking section you will see the adaptor that you are connecting with. At the present I am willing to bet it is set to use DHCP. This means that every tome you boot the guest it will more than likely get a different IP address. This is something you will probably not want since you will rely on knowing what the IP address is when accessing it from the LAN. Pick an unused address that is in your subnet and give that to the guest. You can see how to do this by using the Windows help or consulting the Windows help forums.
