Full Screen Gaming on Virtual Box?(Windows XP Guest)

Hello,
I am using Windows Xp as Guest OS in Virtual Box while Windows 8 is my host OS.
I basically am using VirtualBox for some games which have compatibility issues with windows 8(crashing etc). I play AOE2, SC2 etc on VB.
My monitor resolution is 1600x900. I am getting the same in VB guest desktop but I am not able to run ANY games on full screen(it runs in windowed mode of 800x600 or so). I did my part and googled a bit, but those workarounds didnt solve the issue.
These are the things I did :
1) Install Guest Additions normally and also in safe mode with direct 3d enabled
2) Using Hotkeys Ctrl+L for scale, and Ctrl+G for resizing(in full screen ofc, Ctrl+f). This indeed works for desktop, but when a game is running, the combos are giving me a crash and the VB is closing..
3) I also tried the workaround given in a post :
Basically it is to open a cmd in virtualbox folder and to type : VBoxManage.exe setextradata "win xp vhd" CustomVideoMode1 1600x900x32
Win xp vhd is my windows xp guest OS on VB
Also, Im getting a popup saying u should enable 32 bit in display or something like that when a game is running. In my Windows XP VB desktop preferences, I already set the resolution to 1600x900 and 32 bit as color.
Please check and let me know how to fix this.
Thank you
