Mac Hosts And Guest Additions

I've been using VirtualBox for over four years. I've been installing the guest additions from VB itself for all that time. Lately, the last four guests I've installed; Linux Mint 15 RC, Manjaro 0.8.5.2, Debian 7 and openSUSE 12.3, came with GAs pre-installed. Normally I would uninstall the included GA's and replace them. However, on my Mac at least, the ones that came pre-installed with the distros work better, especially with graphics and 3D. I realize they aren't always the latest versions of the GAs although at least one of them is using 4.2.10, but it seems why fix something that isn't broke?

I assume this only applies to Mac hosts because the issues Macs seem to be having, Windows and Linux hosts don't seem to have. I am curious as to what may be going on here.

edit: I should mention Debian 7, was installed with Gnome 3. It is the only version of any Linux distro I've used where Gnome 3 works correctly and I can take a screen shot of its desktop from within the guest itself. No other distro with compiz or mutter etc is that true. I also would mention that Ubuntu 13.04 and 13.10 pre-alpha didn't come with the GAs installed and both seem to work much better with the official GAs than any other previous versions of Ubuntu although I stall cannot take a screenshot from within the guests.

The other thing I would mention is the vast majority of guests; video players do not work with xv video. One has to switch to x11 video for them to work properly. Again, this may be only for Mac hosts.

I think this kind of question would directly relate to how the devs are (possibly?) changing the code in that partituclar section, or if they are aware of any major diff between their sources and the distro's own additions.
So you would get the best feedback directly on the Dev Mailing List.

okay thanks. I have heard they are rewriting some of the Mac code so perhaps I should just wait or I can drop them a mote.
