Can't re-map Caps Lock

Hello,
I'm running Arch Linux as a guest on a Mac (Macbook Air) host. I'm able to reassign keys in X via xmodmap for all keys except Caps Lock. I've tried examples in the xmodmap man page as well as a number of alternative ideas and absolutely nothing will make Caps Lock map to a different key -- it will either act as Caps Lock or do nothing. After remapping Caps Lock, running xev will report the correct remapped value, but X doesn't recognize it (I guess). I couldn't find anyone having this problem on Google (all problems were due to improper xmodmap config) so I suspect it has something to do with my specific Arch-Linux-virtualized-on-a-Macbook setup.
Any ideas?
