Dears,
I would like to ask the following.
I installed virtual box 4.2.12 on my windows 7.
As virtual machine i configured a windows server 2008.
On the VM windows server, I enable the option for remote desktop, now i want to to access from my windows 7 this vm windows server by remote desktop.
But seems not to work.
Every setting is by default at the moment.
Any advice?
THanks

Be sure you open the port in the Windows firewall of the guest, or disable entierly.
If you use NAT networking mode, you need to forward the port to the guest.

If you are using the MS remote desktop you must use Bridged or host-only as your network mode.

For Virtualbox networking :
The Networking chapter of the User Manual
For Remote desktop : on a Windows forum as this falls outside the scope of this forum.
Be aware that there is usually a confusion with new people using Virtualbox : there is a built-in RDP to the Virtualbox process, which is actually the way to access the "Console" of the guest, which would be like being in front of a physical screen.
But there is also the Windows Remote Desktop service, which is within the guest and is a feature of a Microsoft OS.
In both case, by default, they listen on the TCP port 3389. So be sure you do not mistake them for the other, as the way of accessing them and using them is not the same.

Then either go for Host-Only or Bridged mode on the networking card config of the VM and see if you get a successfull connection on the IP that the guest will have.
If not, the issue is with your guest configuration or firewalling issue.
Bare in mind that using these two modes will exactly be like having another physical computer sitting next to yours, on which you want to connect via Remote Desktop.

Add a second adapter in the guest settings and set it to NAT
