Cannot install Guest Additions on windows 8

Hi folks,

I've been trying to install VirtualBox on my Windows8 machine to no avail. My problem is with the guest additions, I cannot install them. They are installed in Ubuntu (my guest), I installed them with the Device menu of VB. But for the host, I never managed to complete the installer.

I tried both 4.2.12 and 4.2.10, with the same result. It seems to be a problem with a driver, but I searched the web and found no answer to that particular problem. I try to install the GA on the host by clicking directly on VBoxWindowsAdditions.exe. The error that I get is :

I wonder if it's something to do with Direct3d, but anyway I cannot uncheck it.

Processor : Intel(R)_Core(TM)_i7-3630QM_CPU_@_2.40GHz
Display adapter : NVidia GeForce GT 650M

Guest Additions = Additions for guest. They do not go on the host.

I'm sorry, but don't I need to install something on the host as well?

As it is, the Guest Additions don't work. I shared folders, but they don't show in /media on my guest. Also, the guest runs in low resolution, it cannot be maximized.

Wow, I feel like a total newbie. I had found thousands of instructions on the web, even on this forum, many of which I followed. I had not found these that you just posted, and they worked.

I will blame my incompetence in the matter on the fact that I am very tired, otherwise I will feel as computer-illiterate as my grandmother. I like to think better of my competences.
